Phantom unmasking himself at the end of The Point of No Return
Hello, POTO fans! I went to see the 40th anniversary performance of The Phantom of the Opera in the Baltics, and what surprised me was the Phantom himself taking his mask off at the end of “The Point of No Return.” It was also revealed that the Phantom killed Piangi by stabbing him in the chest, not by hanging.
Are there any other versions in which the unmasking is done by the Phantom and not Christine, and in which Piangi is stabbed? Why did this version decide to have the Phantom willingly take his mask off at the end of that number?
