In December I set up VEEAM backups for my client's workstations. I configured them to do a full workstation backup on the first Sunday of every month, and weekly incremental backups in between.
With a retention policy of 31 days, this should mean that no more than two full backups are ever preserved. One full backup from within the last 31 days, and the previous full backup that was created outside the retention scope, but still has incremental backups within the scope that rely on it.
Despite this, I have a total of 5 full backups and 13 incremental backups going all the way back to the first full backup performed in December. Meaning not a single backup has been deleted.
After reviewing the backup job settings and with nothing else to go on, I've disabled the setting that mandates when a new full backup is created, as I suppose the retention policy *might* only apply to the most recent chain? The wording in the info bubble that appears next to this setting is a bit vague.
I have attached screenshots of the VEEAM job summary (before I disabled the monthly full backup), the folder where the full and incremental backups are stored, and the info bubble that appears next to the full backup setting. Any advice is appreciated.
