How I am watching my movies in 2026.
I may be on the spectrum (who knows) but what I have gotten into recently may solidify it.
Long story short, I never really had the attention span to usually watch movies, but my wife dragged me to go see Project Hail Mary in IMAX last month. And it opened my eyes up to movies again. I just wanted to watch all the movies. It’s been a month and I have watched 30 movies. I travel as a job so I have plenty of alone time and plane time to watch, hence why so many in so little time.
But I think I have made a way to watch as many different kind of movies as possible. Hear me out:
- Box office mojo . Com
- Sort by weekly box office (I use domestic US only)
- Go through every year there is data for a movie released that week.
- Look up gross, adjust for inflation
- Put in spreadsheet (year, movie, gross inflation, where to watch and is it a sequel/prequel/start of a franchise/next movie in franchise)
- Now this is where it gets hard. Watch as many movies released in that week in box office history.
- Start with highest grossing/random however you want.
- OPTIONAL: I only watch movies that have a higher than 5.0 on IMDB. To save myself from most Madea movies etc.
I like this method because again I have watched very few movies in my lifetime. Some weeks I’ve learned is very Marvel sequel heavy, (last week for example) so I watched Iron Man. Now the second move is Increebile Hulk that came out next in June, so I won’t watch anymore Marvel movies until June. Then I have to wait again for when Iron Man 2 got released. So my thought is instead of getting beat down by back to back to back Marvel movies (I know I’d get bored and start disliking them) it gives me time to reset.
Is it too much? Yeah probably. And I want to watch in release orders of franchises instead of chronological like (Star Wars, MCU) I’ve never seen many of those movies and y’all watched them that way in the theater that way too.
Can’t wait for this multi year project I’m getting myself into haha.
EXAMPLE: May 7-13 (this week) Top movies by gross
- Twister (watched)
- Iron man 2 (not watch until next year this week since I haven’t seen Incredible Hulk this June)
- Star Trek (watched since it’s the first of the “new franchise”)
- The Mummy (same as Star Trek)
- Deep Impact (watched)
- Then I skipped a bunch because they weren’t on my streaming services
- Detective pikachu, Friday the 13th original, and today kicking &screaming
