Hi there - I’m an incoming 2L at a Canadian law school looking to work in New York BL. Not UofT.
I interviewed with a V10 firm earlier this year but unfortunately did not get the job. From my understanding, it seems like doing an MBA (JD/MBA) is the only meaningful way to break into the NY market as a Canadian. Please do let me know if that isn’t accurate.
For reference, my 1L GPA is 3.67 (which should place me in the top 10%), I have a master’s, almost two years of professional work experience, and have secured a non-BL 1L job.
With my grades and profile, I’m not sure what my chances are at New York. If my chances are low, I might still be interested in pursuing an MBA for other reasons, but that would significantly reduce my interest in it.
I know it is expensive and adds another year to the degree so I want to be smart about it, bur we can assume that the cost is not a huge factor.
I welcome any advice! Thank you :)
