In her first appearance in "What Are Little Girls Made Of?", Verdona informs us that she came to visit Gwen, Ben, and Ken when they were born to check if any of them had the Spark and was disappointed that none of them did. Furthermore, she was very surprised to see that Gwen was an Anodite. Do you think this might indicate that it was Gwen's contact with magic that caused her Anodite heritage to awaken?
I keep wondering how the discovery about her alien ancestry affected Gwen's worldview. After all, Gwen discovered that she wasn't human and that her body was just a kind of skin suit* that could be removed at any time. Furthermore, Natalie's (Gwen's mother) relationship with strange things was always implied to be something very bad. Could this have caused some kind of identity dissociation? Especially after she awakened her formula, her Anodite form, for the first time. The way she sees it, it seems like this should have extremely and irreversibly altered Gwen's mind due to the intrinsic differences of the Anodite mind.
*For those who don't know, all descendants of Spark Anodites are full Anodites, meaning Gwen's human body is a kind of natural skin suit; it's as if Gwen's body were an egg listening to the Anodite form, just waiting for its shell to be destroyed
