How do you feel about your legal assistants? What are your expectations and what would you say beginner responsibilities should be?
I was promoted to legal assistant at a firm and received 2 days of training from the paralegals I was assisting and then expected to teach myself. A lot of the time the assignments didn’t make sense, like being told to do a long form DRA from a short DRA. I asked the attorney when I was confused and he said it was because that’s impossible. You do short DRA’s from Long DRA’s. I was assigned things like a satisfaction of judgment, which took me way too long because it was my first time and then it was put in my review that I was incompetent and I was fired.
I’m doing interviews right now and I’m not sure I can do the actual job without training. I would really like to know what are reasonable expectations of me.
