Hi everyone me again, quick background, I delivered my son at 29 weeks 3.5 years ago due to dilating at 25 weeks with funnelling and bulging membranes, prom at 27, and he stayed in there until 29! It was a good outcome. I have also had a LEEP prior to his birth several years prior. So today I’m almost 13 weeks pregnant, I’m being monitored by the local OBGYN, who is over an hour drive away. At my 11 week US my cervix looked “long” but I’m getting another US this Friday to get measurements. My OB told me he thinks I should get a cerclage around 15 weeks depending on my cervical measurements. He advised I can choose from sedation or spinal block. He also said I will basically have no restrictions after the cerclage but encouraged pelvic rest (no intercourse).
Here’s my question, I’m pondering requesting an OB at the closest MFM does it instead, the closest is in Vancouver, BC, which is a 13 hour drive or a quick flight. I can only assume the doctors at BC Women’s would have more experience with this surgery. Has anyone here travelled for a more experienced surgeon? Has anyone here stayed local and had a good experience? I’m going to ask his office approx how many cerclage surgeries he’s done, maybe I’m over thinking this and it’s really not that complex.
Thanks so much
