GODZILLA IS ALIVE!!! + old light question

First time rewiring a machine with new power and pedal cables. Definitely forgot to turn the power off a few times when I was messing with it. 🤦‍♀️ It went from rotting to running!!!

This is my first rewiring of anything electrical and my big mistake was not leaving it as is until getting the new cables. Ah, well. Got too excited. Will label them next time.

Also shined up the table. Always satisfying.

Only thing left is the light.

I used a voltage tester on the light wire. There seems to be power, but it doesn’t turn on. Is there a way to replace the bulb? I’ve got no idea how to take it apart. When I tried twisting the ring in the front, it was pretty tough and not moving.

Also, not sure how to get the finish to be happier. Applied some oil to clean it but it’s got some spots on it. Will probably just leave it as is.

Singer 4552 - Reverse stitch length problem

Got this machine and only had one having issue when I got it—it would only do very small stitch length. The machine appeared otherwise totally unused.

I was able to oil and clean the grease from it and that allowed the forward stitching problem to resolve.

But noticed the rocking mechanism going in reverse would not move its full range when I adjusted the stitch, like the forward mode would. Things would not move under the machine if I adjusted stitch length like with forward mode.

So small stitches only going in reverse.

Anyone have this issue? The machine made a springy pop as I was working through it by hand, so I wonder if the problem is related to a spring that may have gotten out of place.

Any help very appreciated!

(Advice Request) Rewiring Singer 66

Started looking into this, wondering if the rewire kit from the Featherweight shop will work. It seems to have all the wires I need.

https://singer-featherweight.com/products/rewiring-kit-singer-featherweight-vintage-original-foot-controller?srsltid=AfmBOorLLkNzGilU_cdxWSUHVEbKxjQgDmOWJzGsab0M_H_jSV-LrRLa).

If these wires won't work, I'll stash them for a repair down the line, and would love to hear where it might be a thrifty place to get the replacement cords.

I have been watching these videos:

https://youtu.be/2LzUvUP1NW4?si=mFuX_rbQeUM-mSlt

https://youtu.be/qzTB3lyE8Ys?si=CsqLjuiszvFEh7_6

https://youtu.be/yQmHwfdj010?si=r9CJSqOISM4e4eKy

So, my questions:

- Will the wires from the FW shop work for my 66? Is there a reason they might not work, and why? Just trying to get a sense of all of this stuff, since I'm new to electrical work. I have one of the motors that has all the wires hardwired in, and I'd like to keep it that way if I can.

- Do I have to worry about neutrals and hots? I'm in North America. One of the videos mentioned that the neutrals are the ones with ribs on the wire typically. Does that sound right?

- Any other useful projects I can do to increase my knowledge about electricals? I'm totally new and I'll have some time to experiment until the cords arrive. Fundamental things could be useful to learn.

- The second to last picture has something called a stress something. Should I replace it, or try reinstalling? They appear to be in fine shape, and I'd rather reclip them, but I don't know.

- The last picture has that little copper spring. What is it? It was over the wires and under the wire nut.

Otherwise, looking forward to this project. Was unable to even plug this thing in (condition of cord was see-through) but looking forward to learning some stuff and getting this thing running again.

Got this matte colored Singer with a centennial badge that looks like a good project machine. Stripped wires, missing table attachment, table that needs a shine. Good stuff.

Haven’t had this model before, but looking forward to shining it up and getting it running.
