Hi, looking for advice regarding an incident earlier today. Here’s some context: my brother was in the market for a new vehicle and was able to trade in his old lease early (Blazer) for a truck (Silverado) this past weekend. While the dealer transferred the old plate to the Silverado, my brother informed him that he needed to repair some minor fender damage first. The dealer agreed to give him until Tuesday to have the vehicle serviced and returned. At this point, my brother had both vehicles insured, but the Blazer no longer had current registration.

Fast forward to today… my brother texted to let me know he would be working late, and unable to make it to the mechanic before closing. Seeing as I left work early, I reluctantly agreed to pick up the vehicle and deliver it to the dealership on his behalf. For some context: my family has had a rough past few days… my dad’s vehicle was totaled yesterday, and my mom’s vehicle is currently in the shop for an engine-related issue. I really just wanted to ease some of my family’s burden. Upon arriving at the mechanic, I immediately noticed there was no plate or even a temp plate (big mistake… I know). With the intention of driving the Blazer directly to the dealership (25 min drive), I was unfortunately pulled over, arrested, and taken in for booking.

After booking, I was released in under an hour without bond, and my court date is set for later this month. Any advice? Is there a possibility of getting this charge dropped? I have no prior offenses (squeaky clean record). As a high-school teacher, I’m not exactly living life on the edge here. My brother and I are currently headed to SOS to obtain temporary registration in order to retrieve the vehicle from impound and provide proof of immediate registration for court. Thank you!
