Husband’s been eating too much fried food and caught a dry cough, so I made some Rock Sugar Steamed Pears.

My husband has been eating way too many fried and greasy things lately, he started dealing with a dry cough and a scratchy throat these past two days. I decided to make a batch of Steamed Pears with Rock Sugar (Bing Tang Xue Li) to help soothe his system.
It’s super simple: just two peeled and cored pears, a bit of rock sugar, and some water, then steamed for about 30 minutes. The flavor turned out perfectly, and I gave everyone in the family a bowl.
Just a heads-up if you decide to try this: it’s amazing for "heat" coughs caused by fried food, smoking, or staying up late. It’s also good for that dry, itchy throat feeling you get when the weather is really dry. However, you have to be careful, if the cough is actually a "cold" cough (caused by a chill), this can make it worse because it's so cooling. But for that scratchy, "over-fried" or dry-weather throat feeling, it’s a total classic.
