Some Birmingham Pen Company swatches and comparison to website swatches

Got some Birmingham Pen Company samples and when I swatched them on 68gsm Tomoe River paper, I was a little surprised by how different some of the colors look in person and on camera compared to the photos on the website.

  1. Shower Scum - In real life Shower Scum is way closer to the website swatch compared to my photo. It’s a nice rotting orange squash color which I find really cool. BPC makes really cool earthy, grungy colors.

  2. Saltmarsh - It looks way more gray with purple in real life and on camera, compared to the light concrete color from the website. It kind of reminds me of Troublemaker’s Frost Flower. I’m glad I got a sample of this before just buying the whole bottle cause it’s just so different from the website’s color.

  3. Barley - I think the website photo was pretty accurate for this one, too. It’s a nice light wheat color and the shading is really nice. If you’re like me and you like to write with light colors, this is a pretty unique one to use.

  4. Oil Rag - It looks green on the website, less green on camera, but in person it just doesn’t look that green at all, more like a standard dark gray with maybe a whisper of green.

Not to say that the website isn’t accurate but if you’re like me who’s outside of the US, might be a good idea to find a sample of these inks first cause some of these colors are chameleons and might look different in real life. They’re all gorgeous and I like all of them, but some of these definitely weren’t what I was expecting.

My uncle found out I was into fountain pens so he gave me his and his uncle’s nibs for their dip pens. I want to use them but I have no idea where to start with cleaning. Any idea how I can clean these? They haven’t been touched since probably the late 70s.

EDIT: Yup, I know these are for dip pens, they're not the same as fountain pens, and that India ink doesn't go in fountain pens. Not in picture but I have the nib holder from them, too. Should've been clearer. But thanks for the concern! Super appreciate it.
