Acoustic panel or wood diffuser?

Looking for some expert advice regarding a practice studio/rehearsal space set up...

I'll be placing an order for a buttload of acoustic panels shortly and plan to put a large ceiling-mounted acoustic panel above the drum kit. On the wall behind the drum kit, I was thinking of doing a large wood diffuser, just to add a pop of "art" to the room. Would it be better to just place another acoustic panel on the wall? I realize that above is more important for handling cymbal reflections, but I'm starting to rethink my plan. Thanks in advance!

I fully realize I'm going to get scoffed at and destroyed, so I'll say in advance that I'm grateful to anyone that takes this seriously and provides useful advice.

Is there any way that I can partially soundproof a concrete wall in an unfinished basement WITHOUT framing/rockwool/drywall? Acoustic blankets perhaps? I will be acoustically treating the space with 10+ panels, bass traps, and ceiling clouds, but I'm wondering if there's anything more I can do without "finishing" the concrete wall.
