Hello lovely community of PubTips!
I'm querying for the first time and would love to hear your advice. After taking the opinion of the writing community on X, I decided to query in batches, starting with fast responders and agents who have liked my pitch.
I started querying 12 days ago, and here are my stats so far:
Q:16
R:1
Full Request: 1
I received 1 personalized rejection from an agent who'd asked me to query her when I'm ready. She told me that my pitch was a 10/10, but she didn't connect with the voice. My full request was also from another agent who found me through social media and sent me a special QM link to submit the full MS--I'm not sure if that counts as a full request.
Anyways, I am in 2 maybe piles of agents who've liked my pitches online. Most agents now seem to either reply after 8 weeks or only reply if interested. I've also heard many agents now request the full MS and 'sit on it' until they get nudged with an offer. At this point, I'm wondering if there is any point to waiting since agents won't provide me with any feedback anyway.
I've posted my query letter on here a couple of times and gotten lots of feedback on it from other authors to the point that I believe any edit I make won't really change any agent's opinion. My synopsis and pages match in voice, so I also don't see how I can edit them further unless I revise the entire book.
I'm aware that 12 days is nothing, and I'm extremely impatient, but I don't want to wait months or even years for form rejections. I haven't queried any of my 'dream agents' yet.
The question here is: Do I try my luck and send a big batch, or wait?
