I don't know if this is the right subreddit for this but here we go anyway

How do 'hacked' versions of online games function? Like I know it's not hacked but rather it works on a different private server with the original games code or something like that.

Example for such games are null's brawl (brawl stars) and Chinese version of clash royale

I want to know how this is achievable and if it's only for certain types of game with a weak game source code security.
