I found what I believe to be a military button at an old farmhouse located pretty much in the middle of Michigan. It's a little smaller than a dime but is pretty thick, and appears to be made of brass. It has a flat back, with no shank (or indication that there once was a shank) and instead has two holes. The two holes appear to be original and not something that was done by someone afterwards. I would assume that the holes would have been used to attach the button to a garment using thread, but I also find it little odd that if it is attached in this manner, in doing so, the eagle would be covered/obscured by the thread. I mean, why design a button with a nice eagle motif, only to then cover it with thread?
