Hi all,
I’m hoping to tap into the collective wisdom here. I’m an international student from Belgium preparing to pursue an additional Master’s degree in the U.S. I already hold a Master’s in business/finance from Belgium and have internship experience in investment banking in Belgium and the Netherlands.
For a long time, I’ve been interested in studying and working in the U.S., ideally starting in bulge bracket or strong boutique investment banking. More recently, I’ve also become open to in-house M&A or broader managerial roles, particularly in the aerospace and defense sector, which strongly interests me.
Beyond career goals, I’d also like to enjoy my university experience and my time in the U.S. Since I will likely return to Europe in the long term, I’m also considering how well each option translates back internationally.
I’ve been fortunate to receive a strong scholarship and have been admitted to four programs:
- WashU (Olin) – Master in Finance: Attractive campus, solid program, semi-target for IB. However, potentially less recognizable internationally and in a less desirable location.
- University of Maryland (Robert H. Smith) – Master in Finance: Excellent location in Washington, D.C., both socially and for aerospace/defense. Possibly less strong for IB and with a somewhat less prominent brand.
- Georgetown – Master in Management: Strong global brand and great D.C. location. Good undergraduate pipeline into IB, though the MiM is less traditional for that path. Smaller, more urban campus.
- Cornell – Master in Management: Prestigious name and strong undergraduate IB placement. However, more remote location and less of a traditional campus-city environment.
I’d really appreciate any insights or perspectives on how to weigh these options.
Thanks in advance!
