What other documents do I need?
Hi all! I am gathering documents to submit for my application for German citizenship and wanted to turn to this group to see if I'm on the right track and/or if there are other documents that I need to gather.
Background:
I was born in wedlock in 1969 to a German mother and American father. My mother did not become a US citizen until she naturalized in 1995.
My mom was born in present day Poland (it was Germany at the time of her birth) and I have a copy of her birth certificate from the USC in Poland. It is a long form copy of her birth certificate, but her parents' dates of birth and places of birth are not listed on the document. The only "proof" I have of my mother's German citizenship at the time of my birth are her old German passports as well as her "Ausweis A für Vertriebene und Flüchtlinge" and the accompanying personalausweis.
I know that my maternal grandfather was born in Bork, Prussia in 1902 (present day Poland) and my grandmother was born in Schlawa, Prussia (present day Poland) in 1902. I was able to find their birth records via Ancestry and the source listed for those documents is the Berlin State Archives. I also found their marriage register from Schlawa, Prussia (the source is also the Berlin State Archives).
Documents I have so far:
-My birth certificate
-A single status letter for myself
-My mother's and father's birth certificates
-My parents' certificate of marriage
-FBI background check
-My mother's US Certificate of Naturalization
My main question is - do I need certified copies of my grandparents' birth certificates and their certificate of marriage if my claim for citizenship is through my German mother? If so, how do I go about getting those copies? Through the Berlin State Archives or through Poland?
I plan to also have my children submit their applications at the same time as me. We have their birth certificates, marriage certificates/single status letters, birth certificates for both parents, and their FBI back groundchecks.
Are there any other documents that we are missing? Thanks in advance for your help!
