Hi all,
I have started my degree in Surveying at USQ. This is my second degree after doing a generic business degree 10 years ago. After completing my business degree in Marketing, I didn’t really use any of the knowledge once I got a job and instead learnt on the job.
How relevant is the knowledge you learn in USQ Surveying degree in day to day life? I am doing subjects such as GIS, Engineering Math and am only barely passing my assignments. It made me think, if people are doing TAFE degrees and becoming great surveyors, how important is the knowledge in uni? I have issues with retaining knowledge. I may learn and ace the assignment and exams for a class but after that semester, I forget it as I do not come back to it.
E.g. I am learning how to calculate backsight, foresight in my surveying class but I know I will forget this after the semester finishes.
For people who will say to look for a job in Surveying to put my knowledge to practice, I currently have a really great job with lots of downtime which is allowing me to compete the degree. However it is a contract that will end soon. Once that’s done I will look for a Surveying job.
