Question for those of you that went from one rig to multiple…. How?

My sister and I are set to take over our multi generational water well drilling business. I have been drilling since I was 13 years old it’s the only job I’ve ever had. We only have the one rig and would really love to get into the pump business then later add a second rig. I know the ins and outs of the industry almost as well as anyone with over 15 years of experience however I just don’t know how to go about scaling from an owner operator type of operation to a multi crew out fit.

My father is an amazing driller, however he’s not the best businessman.. sticks to himself can be a bit anti social and is happy with just being an owner operator. While there’s nothing wrong with that model, my sister and I are very ambitious yet cautious and see nearly endless potential.

Those of you that have scaled up, if you could give your former self some advice or go back and do something different what would that be?

For reference we are the longest standing drilling company in our area and currently are getting more than our fair share of the work between about 8-10 other outfits. Our rig is obsolete but reliable. Coming off 5 bad years and finally clearing up some financial issues. 2025 was good and 2026 is looking like it will be GREAT.
Thanks.
