I’ve worked as an AAUS scientific diver for 4 years and have always had an interest in military/ commercial diving. My first thought was Navy, as their divers don’t need to advance to E5 before going to dive school. After further research though, it sounds like DVs have way nicer jobs than NDs.
What advice would you give to someone interested in enlisting in the Coast Guard (likely as a DC) with the intention of becoming a career DV?
How long does it typically take to reach E5? I’ve heard it depends largely on “A” school. But if it’s realistic that I could be spending 5+ years in a different rate I’d like to know.
I’ve heard dive school is one of the hardest in the military, with a super high dropout rate. What should I expect and how should I train? I’ve always been fit with powerlifting in school, and I am already very comfortable in the water. Cardio? Sleep Deprivation? Dehydration? Drowning drills? What should I expect/ work on beforehand.
Thanks in advance!
