▲ 2 r/Roses

I planted 15 roses for my dad in upstate SC (8B) 3 weeks ago. These were roses that were either in his greenhouse for the last several years or ones I purchased last year from Heirloom—all of them in fantastic shape. I planted with rose soil, peat, compost and organic mulch I made from our sycamore trees.

I came back to do some more work today and about half of them have these brown leaves. I found two leaves total with white spots. The roses I planted in some shade seem to be fine (I went by the Heirloom site’s guide on which need 6+ hours of full sun and which can handle some shade) so my first thought was that it’s just too hot for them out in the full sun. I scanned for bugs and other than one lone tiny wee little black spider there didn’t appear to be any (I’ve put some leaves in a ziplock just in case).

But I thought you guys might have some ideas on what’s gone wrong. I really hope I didn’t do something that’s going to kill the roses he’s had for years and years. 🫣Help!!

ETA: most are in ground but there are a few in pots that Heirloom stated do well in them. There’s also a couple that didn’t get planted yet that are still in the pots my dad put them in two or three years ago that absolutely need to be in the ground and that’s one of the things I was working on today.
