I'm a carpenter building my family home on the east coast of Canada. I'm inevitably finding gaps in my knowledge. I have a concrete quote for slab with 4' footing. My instinct was to have the footing and foundation walls poured then the slab would be poured within the new foundation walls. My father in law (contractor for 50 years). Says I should be getting the slab pour on top of the foundation walls as to pour within the walls is too dependent on skilled compaction. I'm out of my depth and advice?
