I'm 3 weeks out from fusion surgery. Anterior surgery was one day, posterior the next. Since late fall, I'd had numbness, burning and tingling in both hands as well as numbness and loss of balance in my feet. I'm mid 60s and felt really healthy before symptoms about 6 months ago. I did yoga, went for walks, did light resistance training.

So far, my hands feel somewhat better for a day or so, then back to crappy the next. My feet seem a little bit better in that I don't walk like I'm drunk anymore, it's more of a straight line, but they are still very numb and balance is still off.

I've seen some people saying they felt better soon after surgery, but are those exceptions? Any longer-term success stories you can share? I'm a little discouraged because I'm not seeing much improvement. I have read that it takes nerves a long time to improve. It's hard to keep my spirits up because I was used to being active.

On the bright side, I feel like I am healing well from the surgery. I worked from home this week and other than having to adjust my desk and chair set up a lot, I did ok. No pain meds other than Tylenol after a couple of days after surgery. The neck brace is annoying, but nothing I can't live with for a few more weeks. My surgeon said I can start PT around 6 wks post-op.
