Bank with caution if you ever need to cash checks. I got a regular, run of the mill check. I wrote "for mobile deposit only at Sofi bank" on the back as instructed, so of course now it's no good anywhere else. I tried to deposit it in the Sofi app and got an error message that "we are having a problem on our end." After 2 months and dozens of attempts to cash it, I gave up and moved all of my money out of Sofi. I'll have to ask the company its from to re-issue the check.

As for SoFi, I spent over 40 minutes on hold on their customer service phone line on multiple occasions only to get canned responses about lighting. At one point, I was connected with a "resolution specialist" via an email that said I could respond to it. Her initial response was unhelpful and made it obvious she hadn't really looked into my case. I emailed her 3 times with 0 responses. I had the customer service line place 2 developer tickets. The first one also gave a canned response about lighting. I never got a response to the second one. They never gave me an explanation for why their app cannot process this check. During one of my calls to their customer service, I asked if they could manually cash it with the photos I had provided. They assured that there is no alternative way to cash it with them outside of their buggy app.

To prove I am not just tech illiterate, I had another check that I chose to cash in a different app. Went through no problem. I then put the Sofi problem check in the exact same place and lighting and continued to get an error message through the Sofi app.

All this to say, their app is cute and has pretty good UI when it works right. When it doesn't work, you are up a creek. You're only option is to try their customer service, which is abysmal with long waits, no solutions, then ghosting. This glitch prevented me from accessing a decent amount of money for months. Save your time and bank somewhere with actual customer service.
