Was watching a race recently and it got me thinking about how we judge strategy in real time vs after the fact.
During the race, a call can look completely wrong, staying out too long, pitting early, switching tire strategy, but then 10-15 laps later it suddenly makes sense depending on safety cars, pace shifts, or degradation.
Feels like it’s really hard to tell whether a strategy is 'good' or just happened to work because of how things played out.
I’ve noticed I’ve started paying more attention to things like stint pace, tire management, and gaps rather than just reacting to the call itself, but even then it’s not always clear what the “right” move was.
Do you guys usually trust the teams’ strategy calls, or do you find yourself second guessing them while watching?
