Hi everyone,
Looking for some advice on my situation in Ontario.
I submitted an N9 to my property management on March 16th with 102 days’ notice (so beyond the required 60 days) to end lease on June 30th ( 72 days to May 31st)
At the time, I wanted to make sure I was giving more than enough notice and keeping things smooth.
Since then, our situation has changed. We’re closing on our first home in June 1st week.
Because of this, I reached out again on April 6th to request an earlier move-out date (May 31st), explaining that paying both rent and mortgage at the same time would be a significant financial strain for us. We can move to another place temporarily for a week.
The property management declined and is holding us to the original N9 timeline.

My questions:
Do I have any legal options to end the lease earlier at this point?
If I move out May 31st, can they still charge me for June even if the unit is re-rented?
Would requesting a lease assignment at this stage help?
Has anyone successfully negotiated something similar with property management?

Not trying to break any rules here—just hoping to find a practical and fair solution given the situation.
Appreciate any advice or experiences you can share!
