I'm not saying Re:zero has no character development. It's rather the opposite. Subaru at the start really only wants to get girls and get stronger, but as time passes, he gets reminded again and again that his mindset was wrong about a particular subject. It's not always the case either. But my point is that Re:zero is fully a story about tackling and shaping your past mistakes to betterment.
A lot of anime, especially Isekai, have the maim characters do the same things, live the same way as they did before, and then it's just, like, what did he even get Isekai'd for? It was to change his life, but he just didn't do anything like that.
There's also one more thing I want to say, and it's slightly unrelated. It's about Reze from CSM. She didn't get a chance to do anything, never had the chance to question herself, and still got punished, while Makkma seemed like she was making her understand something, but all she was making her understand is that the world does NOT care about anyone other than Denji in here. Fujimoto is a great writer, but come on, man! Same with Yuji from JJK. Bro got traumatised FORCEFULLY to the point of going almost insane.
