Hi All
I’ve been toying with an idea for a while and wanted to get some honest thoughts from people here in India who actually drink and enjoy coffee.
I’ve been living in Australia for the past 21 years and have been working as a food and lifestyle content creator for about 8 years now. Over time, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for coffee culture here, not just drinking it, but understanding beans, roasting styles, and what makes a really good cup.
Lately, I’ve noticed how quickly the coffee scene in India is growing... new cafés, more awareness about specialty coffee, and people willing to experiment beyond instant coffee. It’s honestly exciting to watch.
So here’s what I’m thinking:
I’m exploring the idea of launching a small coffee brand - sourcing high-quality beans and using contract roasting (likely inspired by Australian-style profiles), and then making it available in India. The goal wouldn’t be mass-market right away, but something more niche: good beans, clean flavors, approachable for people getting into better coffee.
Before I take this any further, I’d really love to understand a few things from you all:
* Would you be interested in trying coffee roasted in an “Australian style”? * What kind of coffee do you currently drink at home? (instant, filter, French press, espresso, etc.) * How much are you comfortable spending on a 250g bag of coffee? * Do you prefer strong, dark, “kick” type coffee, or smoother/flavorful profiles? * What would make you switch from your current brand to try something new?
Also, if you’ve tried imported or specialty coffee before, what did you like or dislike about it?
I’m not here to sell anything yet, just trying to learn and see if this idea actually makes sense before I dive in.
Appreciate any thoughts, even brutally honest ones. Thanks heaps
