Hey all, looking for a bit of guidance as I put together my first proper hi-fi setup.

I’ve recently inherited a few hundred records (lots of blues, classic rock and jazz) to add to my modest hip-hop and alt-rock collection, along with a NAD 3225PE amp. Up until now I was just running an Audio-Technica AT-LP60X through a Sonos setup in my house, but now I’ve got these classic components I want to slowly build something decent around.

I picked up a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 12.2s today, so the current setup is:

  • Audio-Technica AT-LP60X turntable (3-4 years old)
  • NAD 3225PE amp (inherited)
  • Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 speakers (bought second-hand but unopened in box for $500AUD)

I actually haven’t set it all up yet. I’m in the process of preparing a listening corner in my garage/workshop (10m x 7m) with a couch facing the speakers. I have 2 year old twin girls so a set up inside the house could be problematic... 😄

Before I wire everything up, I’d love to get some advice on how to get the most out of it from the start. I am certainly not anywhere near an expert in these kind of things.

Things I’m thinking about:

  • Speaker stands / ideal placement
  • Whether a turntable upgrade should be next
  • Whether a subwoofer is worth it in a space this size

Would love to hear what you’d prioritise or anything obvious I should get right from day one.

Cheers!
