I honestly don’t get why NVIDIA Surround gets so much hate for triple screen iRacing.

My PC is pretty strong: 9800X3D + RTX 5080, and I’m using three identical monitors. I was running native triples because that seems to be the common advice: avoid Surround, use iRacing’s native triple support, etc.

The weird part was that my in-game FPS and render graphs looked fine. Usually 180 to 200+ FPS, stable meters, no obvious render issue. But I still had visible smoothness problems. NVIDIA logs showed bad 1% lows and frame pacing drops on the output side, even when iRacing itself was showing high and stable FPS.

I eventually got native triples working more or less okay at 120 Hz, but it still had occasional weird drops or stutters. Not really FPS drops inside iRacing, more like display/output pacing issues.

Then I tried NVIDIA Surround, expecting it to be worse because everyone seems to say it is bad.

And it just works. Smooth, consistent, no weird taskbar/window/borderless issues, no strange output pacing drops so far. It feels noticeably better.

So now I’m wondering: is the Surround hate mostly historical, or is it more about specific setups? Because on my system, with three identical monitors, native triples looked better on paper, but Surround actually feels better in practice.

Curious if others with modern GPUs and high refresh triples have had the same experience.
