Re: 2026 Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship

My name is ..... , and I am writing to express my interest in enrolling in the Level 4 Financial Assistant Apprenticeship at Hampton Court Palace as a stepping stone to acquire an ACA qualification in order to accomplish my long-term aspiration of becoming a Chartered Accountant. With its excellent architecture, rich historical background and the homage it pays to the Tudor period, I feel that the Palace would be an exciting and enriching place to work. As a recognised Jack Petchey Award winner who has undertaken independent projects and possesses relevant work experience, I believe that I would make an excellent candidate for this apprenticeship programme.

By recently completing a job simulation with Chartered Accounting ANZ, I strengthened my understanding of what the job role entails and developed new skills. I assessed financial performance, filled out profit and loss statements and conducted break-even analysis for a client's business. I also conducted competitor research and used this data to formulate an optimal pricing strategy for maximisation of revenue. Carrying out all of these tasks in a real-world context enhanced my analysis skills, IT skills and excel proficiency.

By providing seamless customer service and collaborating with my team members in my role as a Shop Assistant with the British Heart Foundation, I developed my communication and team work skills by adopting a professional and non-judgemental attitude. Volunteering for sports day in order to safeguard over 200+ children with my team also helped me cultivate these traits. The high-pressure environment I worked in during the Christmas season as a result of our team being understaffed equipped me with the resilience and work ethic necessary to thrive during tax season as an accountant. Through call handling, efficient cash handling and creating tidy shop displays, I demonstrated my ability to remain consistently organised regardless of circumstance. Having worked in this job role while remaining dedicated to my calisthenics regime and being in Year 13 truly demonstrates my ability to handle multiple responsibilities at once, which I believe to be an essential quality one must possess in order to succeed at balancing work and studies as an apprentice. Another quality I find to be important for an apprentice is the ability to learn from seniors. At my charity shop role, I observed upselling techniques utilised by my manager in order to maximise revenue, which helped me come up with new and innovative ways to improve work efficiency and boost sales.

Having always enjoyed logical thinking and problem solving, I found myself pursuing the UKMT Maths Challenge and introductory courses for Python and SQL with Codecademy. The Maths challenge pushed me to apply my knowledge to more complex scenarios, while the programming courses helped me gain a good foundational knowledge of the programming that underpins certain aspects of an accountant's work. Mathematics and programming are both intellectually challenging for me in a way that I find incredibly enjoyable.

Budgeting has always been one of my interests. By keeping a record of my receipts, bank statements and using excel to track my spending I have been able to analyse my own habits and come up with new methods allowing me to minimise spending without compromising my quality of life, all while sharpening my excel proficiency. This, in addition to the wide range of art techniques I have taught myself over the past few years, has helped me grow a great attention to detail.

I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Kind regards,
