Submitted my app for the Online MCS. My profile has a big split and I'm trying to figure out how the committee reads it.
Overall GPA is around 3.0, last two years around 2.5. I had a rough stretch due to a family medical situation that includes a few Fs. But every CS and math prerequisite the program lists is an A or A+. GRE is 331 with perfect quant (170/170). Four SWE internships at recognizable companies, one research position, and a few independent systems projects.
My question is whether the committee evaluates the transcript course by course or mainly looks at the overall GPA number. Has anyone gotten in with strong prereqs but a weak overall GPA? Does a high GRE actually offset the transcript, or is that just something people say?
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who got in with a similar split, or anyone who got rejected despite strong prereqs and a weak GPA. Either data point helps!
