When hiring a new applicant, do you contact the applicants previous principal/supervisor in addition to the applicant’s listed references?

A third of the teachers quit at my school and it’s likely our principal isn’t going to be a very positive reference for any of us. If your new applicant has 3 positive references but none of those references are from admin will you contact their listed supervisor? If their supervisor is negative how does this affect the likelihood of moving forward with hiring the applicant if they have green flags everywhere else?

-Is the teacher job market significantly worse than it was 3 years ago ? -am I crazy to think my boss is trying to sabotage my job search (he begged me to stay but when I finally resigned he started reprimanding me any chance he gets for the most minor things)

My resume is objectively stronger now due to work experience and it seems as if three years ago the shittier version got me more leads.

Everyone wants to hear from your boss in addition to the 3 references and my boss said it was fine to list his information on my applications

Figured it would be fine. He said it was fine. Now he’s treating me so different than before I quit and points out everything and anything wrong. At the same time , i am not getting any leads like at all.

I feel like I’m seeing less jobs than I did three years ago ago

I also kept most of my application materials to use again three years later. I’ve updated and added things but they worked great three years ago and now they are actually showing a lot more experience but I’m not hearing back.

I sent this app out to about 10 places and heard nothing. I sent out 1 more but listed a district office boss instead of my principal. This was the only place to reach out and schedule and interview.

In all of my formal reviews with my boss it’s been legitimately all positive feedback. Am I crazy to think he’s intentionally trying to provide bad feedback so I won’t get hired by anyone? Do you think they’re actually contacting him bec I know my ref are being contacted.

He literally begged me to stay. About 1/3 of all the teachers are quitting and I’m trying to go work in a big district and hopefully find a title 1 to work at. As soon as I resigned he got nasty and nit-picky all the time.

Ways to get back at him legally

Has anyone ever dealt with something similar ?

What do I do?

How do I proceed to interact at work?

Is this like something to do back that is legal?

I just want to get back at him for what he’s done to me in person.

Now that I see my resume works when I put down the other boss I’m beginning to think listing my direct supervisor is a mistake as it seems as if he’s intentionally giving poor feedback back.

If that is what actually is happening is it lieke a smal

Amy way to prove my boss is intentionally switching

Do I wear a wire and confront him? I’m just over it…
