Had the pleasure of pattern testing this Axolotl for BC designer Bippy Buddies

A little project I’m excited to finally share!

I had the pleasure of pattern testing this Axolotl for Bippy Buddies, a BC-based amigurumi designer who creates crochet patterns inspired by animals native to BC and the surrounding region.

This Axolotl is part of a four-pattern pack that also includes a salamander, newt, and leopard gecko.

One of the things I really appreciate about Bippy Buddies’ work is the blend of biology, nature, and crochet creativity. They also offer a number of free patterns on their BLOG along with premium patterns through their ETSY shop.

Thanks again to u/BippyBuddies for trusting me as a pattern tester. This little amphibian was a lot of fun to bring to life!

*** UPDATE: A great, big THANKS (with a silent 'P') to everyone who took the time to help me out with ID'ing our Marpole Pterodactyls. It turns out that they're Caspian Terns. Also thank you to those who mentioned the Merlin app, which I had never heard of before, but will be downloading. If you're interested to hear what we've been hearing, click on the third sound clip on this site that u/CW89 posted: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Caspian_Tern/sounds

Cheers!

.....

OK, this may come across as a bit of a weird post, but please hear me out!

Every year, for the past eight years that we've been living here, starting in late spring (around this time of year), my husband and I have observed/heard in the evenings some sort of light-coloured bird flying from the river heading north/northwest in groups of anywhere from three to 20 that screech/squawk quite loudly. Their screech sounds like a repeated "QUAAWK!” or “KRAAAK!" It's always in the evening and they fly/screech up to as late as the early hours of the morning. We jokingly call them terradactyls Pterodactyls because that is what we think terradactyls Pterodactyls would sound like if they were living today. They look like seagulls and doing a little research, we think they might be Glaucous-winged Gulls (just found out we actually have more than one type of seagull!). I've never heard a seagull screech like these do, but then I've also not lived this close to the Fraser. This occurs almost every evening in the warmer months. Has anyone else heard/seen these birds? Can anyone positively identify what type of birds these are?
