I was in Hangzhou on a day trip from Shanghai and stupidly bought 3 bottles of perfume without realizing the allowance limits. Security confiscated one of the bottles when entering Hangzhou station to return to Shanghai (was traveling with my partner, so two bottles of allowance).
Security copied down my passport info and I gave them my address for my next hotel (Beijing) and the hotel’s phone number since I don’t have a Chinese phone number. They also told me to take a picture of the courier’s phone number and, from my understanding, told me to call them if it didn’t arrive in 3 days.
Fast forward, it’s been almost a week and nothing. I’ve asked the staff at my previous hotel and current hotel if they could call and ask for an update but they have both told me the courier is not picking up.
I have the mandarin skills of a large toddler so I may have misunderstood some things. I did ask how payment would work and they said I could pay upon delivery. I also tried to ask for a receipt or confirmation and they brushed me off. I had a train to catch so I didn’t have time to press the issue.
Ultimately, totally my fault for not being aware of the allowances! Just wondering if anyone has been through something similar or if there’s any hope. Will be leaving very soon.
