How do I get enough protein as a vegetarian?

Ive recently started going to the gym and I’ve struggled greatly to get my required daily protein. Shakes have held me off for a bit but they’re expensive and after a while it gets super hard to finish one. Ive heard that the soy in tofu isn’t healthy and a lot of vegetarian protein sources are so high in carbs I don’t know whether it truly counts as a protein source. What are solid forms of plant based protein?
