Mystery of a pigeon's death
Could anybody help me understand what happened here?
We had a sudden hailstorm last night and I heard some fluttering on the balcony, where 2-4 pigeons roost most nights and two have been nesting for many months if not years.
I thought it was injured by the hail but it looks like half its body is missing. Its eggs are also scattered. Another guy who roosts outside the next room is moving well but it looks injured, with a chunk of feathers missing from its nape.
As none of the others were sheltering here during last night's storm, and the balcony isn't really accessible to predators, is it possible the other guy attacked the nesting mom? Or were they both somehow caught by the hail?
Thanks for your help!
