I am on Yaz to manage endo symptoms until my surgery and Mirena coil placement in mid-June. I tried to meet with my specialist about getting off the pill several months ago due to several side effects, but she just suggested I take a higher dose.

Can I just stop the pill to see how I feel as a baseline before surgery? I know the pain of having a period again will be difficult, but I'm curious if I will feel better enough of the pill to make that trade off.

I have a laparoscopy scheduled for June 18th, but I’m struggling with the Vestura/Yaz I started at the beginning of June. Since starting, I’ve experienced daily pain I didn’t have before (sometimes so bad that I struggle to walk) , severe mood swings, and weight gain.

My physical therapist suggested the estrogen in the bc might be worsening my symptoms, but during a virtual visit with a Cleveland Clinic specialist, I was essentially told to "tough it out." The specialist argued that the pill is the best temporary fix to suppress endo symptoms until surgery. She even offered a higher-estrogen pill, which I declined. I’ve continued taking the pill continuously as directed, but the issues haven't improved.

I’m honestly feeling stuck. I want to stop the pill to see how I feel before having a Mirena coil placed during my surgery. I’d like a clear baseline for how I feel on the pill vs. off vs. with the coil. Especially since I struggle to tell if what is causing the new symptoms I didn't experience as much before starting the pill. But I’m terrified of the withdrawal. The last time I missed two pills (each about a week apart), I bled for three weeks with severe cramping.

Should I try to schedule another follow-up with the specialist or go back to my regular OBGYN to discuss this? Part of me is thinking I should just stop taking the pill now to give my body time to adjust.

Any advice would be appreciated.
