Cooked brakes?

Me and my friend use a Nissan 370Z for track days, and we have a huuuge problem with the brakes.

After about half a lap, once the brakes get hot, the car starts vibrating under braking.

What we already tried:

  • Hawk DTC-30 pads
  • DBA4000 rotors, bedded according to the instructions
  • new wheel bearing hubs

And still the brakes get too hot. It looks like we already cooked the rotors, because now there is a slight vibration even when cold. All 3 temperature paint lines turned white on one side (on the other side only 2 did). Right now we’re preparing brake cooling ducts.

But we still think something else may be wrong. We watch a lot of track day videos, and nobody seems to have this effect — vibration only when the brakes are hot.

Could it be a caliper problem? Or is this simply brake overheating? We’re totally new to track days and mechanics, so we’d really appreciate any help!

New telemetry analysis tool for track days

Hi there!

Me and my friend are making a tool for track telemetry analysis — trackhub.space
We found that there are no apps that are simple and good enough for analyzing trajectory, braking, and other driving data. So we created one!

It’s completely free, but it’s still in development. You can upload your data and onboard videos to compare two or more laps. It shows your trajectory, laps, and graphs. It has a lot of visualization tools to help understand where you’re losing time, compare best attempts, and build your ideal lap from the best sectors.

You can also share your data with friends, and they can comment on it and give you advice. Here is my session from a track in Georgia in a Nissan 370Z: https://trackhub.space/shared/acbc0b1f5aededd1dcf5006393873e846655a596cfc274f8de44f5cfbe772709

We’re building this to improve our lap times, so we make tools that really help us understand where we can push a bit more. And it works! I improved my best lap time by 5 seconds by analyzing my own and my friend’s lap data.

Come and check it out! We’re completely open to feedback!
