After $1,000 spent, imaging, anti biotics, anti inflammatories, and no improvements I am told by her vet to just put some ice on it
I have a 5 year staffy mix that has been battling a severely red, severely inflamed thumb on her left hand paw for about 3 weeks now. For context it looks like a cherry tomato with a dog nail coming out of it. For the first two weeks we were doing 2x daily epsom salt soaks for 10-15 minutes, followed by anti microbial sprays and topical ointments with either a cone or a strapped dog sock to keep from licking. After no improvements, we took her into the vet where she was put on rimadyl(75 mg) & simplicef (200 mg). She completed her round of anti biotics & there was zero improvement. It has actually gotten worse & there is a small section where it has turned purple.
We took her back in to have imaging done yesterday which came back clean, and her vet says to just put ice on it. No biopsy, no continued round of stronger anti biotics, just ice. I have already spent what is a significant amount of money to me on this issue, and after all of that to to have my dog still in pain, and her thumb just as bad as the day we first took her in I am needless to say infuriated that the vet isn’t trying anything else besides telling me to put ice on it. Am I overreacting? Should I take her somewhere else & have a biopsy done on her? Next week will be a month with no improvements. Thank you to anyone who is willing to take time out to reply to this.
