I moved out today. Scheduled a key exchange at 8pm but the cleaners took longer than expected and I let her know it would be need to be closer to like 8:30pm at 7:40pm. I went out and got spackle, and came back to her in my apartment and the rest of my last minute stuff was out of the house on the ground (ice cream in the freezer, probiotics, a lamp, tools, cleaning supplies.) This was move out day at 8:10pm.

Is that illegal? It was highly stressful and I didn’t have time to spackle! I do understand I was 10 minutes late, but it was pretty difficult for me to anticipate given we didn’t know the clean would take that long.

EDIT, INFO:
The HOA required us to move furniture out with an inspector between 3-6pm. Landlord originally wanted keys at 6 but also wanted the cleaning to happen. We asked for 2 hours a few weeks ago to clean. She understood the timeline was needed. The cleaning took longer than expected because furniture took longer than 3 hours to move and put in new home.
