Hi everyone! I am about to end my first year as a 9th grade ELA teacher. I taught two full texts this year- Clap When You Land and Romeo and Juliet. The kids responded much better to R&J, and I have so many ideas for how I want to teach it next year. However, they REALLY did not resonate with CWYL. My students told me it was their least favorite by far. I also wanted to stray away from TWO texts written in verse. Any suggestions for whole-class novels I can teach next year? I am able to order class sets of anything and design my own curriculum. I am thinking about incorporating a mini informational text unit and pairing that with They Called Us Enemy, but I am not sure. Any suggestions? Thank you!!
