help DIY outdoor kitchen
Please go easy here - I’m trying to learn as I go and was hoping to build a simple outdoor kitchen from cinderblocks (I’m sure I’ve made some mistakes). I will have an alcove as you can see in the pic that still allows me to roll my grill out while using it to protect from fire hazard. I know I need to level out the blocks so ignore that!
Where I’m stuck is on the countertops and support for countertops. You can see I have the grill and right side layout marked out (I still need to finish the left side, but I am planning to divide that area in half so that it would allow for two cabinets. Since the cabinet areas are open aka have no structural support besides the border of cinderblock to hold something on top - I’m stumped on how to add structural support to hold a countertop. My original idea was to use flat steel bars that were 1/8 inch thick since that fits between the grill arm and the cinderblock - then top with layer of cement board as shown. And then figure out some sort of counter. The flat bars bend in the middle when weight is added so I’m looking for a simple solution that a DIYer can use to add structural support and ideas for what to do for the countertop. Thanks!
