I’ve never owned or ridden a road bike before, but I bought a Cube Attain C:62 Race Blackline last week in XL. I rode it for about 18 km, but it didn’t feel right for me. I felt stretched out, possibly because of the stem length, or maybe just my poor cycling form.

Ideally I would get a proper bike fit, but instead I exchanged the Cube for a Merida Scultura 5000. From what I’ve read, its geometry is a bit more aggressive.

I’m 190.5 cm tall with an 87 cm inseam, so I’ve got relatively short legs and a long torso. A bit unusual, I know, but then again these bike stores could have messed up my measurements as they really scrappy.

I got the Merida in a Large because I heard it runs big, but now the stem feels a bit too close. I’m considering swapping it for an XL.

What are your thoughts?

I’m new to cycling and have already spent quite a bit on the bike and gear, so I’ll probably need to wait a bit before paying for a proper bike fit.
