Sorry if this is a foolish question, but how would one safely dispose of a witch ball that was gifted to them?

A former friend gifted my partner a witch ball some time ago, and they forgot about its existence until yesterday. It's come to light that this friend is not a very good person, and had essentially been hoping to break up my partner and I for a long time, though I think/hope they probably did make the ball with good intentions for my partner.

My partner would like to get rid of it, but is worried that doing so improperly could have negative consequences? I have only ever dabbled in the craft, so I do not have an answer but share their concerns. Any advice would be very much appreciated!
