I first played poe about 12 years ago as a kid and never got into it bc (looking back) I screwed up my build and had no resistances lol. Forgive me if these questions are rudimentary, it’s quite hard to find real guides on YT.
Anyway, I’m just getting back into it now, playing an elemental witch build that I found online. What I didn’t realise is that the build transitions into more of a melee build from what I understand. It uses an axe, and I’m now not sure what you put in the shield slot. I’m having difficulty understanding it, and tbh I wanted a more ranged, spellcaster playstyle.
In the beginning (acts 1-5ish) started Leveling my rolling magma and flaming wall gems. I didn’t understand I could buy gems from an npc and when I realised what the build was meant to be, I panicked and bought some new gems from Lilly (? I think, the one that sells them all) to try and transition into the intended build. But I hate the skills and don’t know how to use them (I got malevolence, sunder and rallying cry + a couple support gems from the build)
I followed the pob passive skills guide up until It started going into strength to get the axe damage nodes.
Essentially what I want to know is:
- Have I bricked this character?
- Should I continue with the intended build or transition into a new one thats more spell caster style? I saw a spell slinger build which looked really cool and is described as a one button nuke - super useful as I’m playing on console. The passives I’ve got are mostly to do with elemental/fire/ignite damage.
- Are builds really as necessary as people say? Or is it like as long as you’ve got the right supporting gems and capped resistances, and a pob passive tree that supports your skills you’re good?
- How do you know what to pick up during the campaign
- Do you have to have your build finished before starting to map? I’ve just got my first map in at 8 and can’t wait to get into it so I wanna know how long the grind could be
- Any tips for playing on PS5? I have a loot filter turned into strict and that’s pretty much it.
