I have been working on Wall St for 21 years. Pre COVID I ran a trading desk that was 100% commission based. It was my most successful time of my career but risks of no guaranteed income proved too difficult during COVID.

So I quit and moved to a safe spot at a Fortune 500 company. Making good money but nothing like I used to. I wanted to learn about AI so I began working on a project to improve my personal financial planning excel sheet at home with Claude.

Four months later and I have a product that is one of the most complete financial planners available to retail users. I think I can make a lot of money selling it, but my firm just denied my Outside Business Activity request because it is too close to their business.

My wife and I have fears of going broke from what happened at the end of my trading career, especially now that we have 2 kids.

I guess it really all depends on my confidence of being able to cover my current income with the new business but it’s a massive risk. Anyone have advice on this? Anyone take the same leap and have advice to share?
