I've been building Finnus solo for a bit, fleshing out the actual product and am begging to build. Wanted to get a gut-check from people who actually pay for personal finance tools before I lock things in.

The core idea:

Finnus isn't a personal finance dashboard. It's a daily editorial read, think Stratechery or The Information, but about your money instead of tech.

You connect your accounts (via Plaid), and every morning you get a brief that's actually grounded in your real financial data, so your spending patterns, your account movements, your portfolio holdings, etc. It also pulls real market and macro data daily and synthesizes how it's actually affecting your portfolio. Not generic "markets were down today" something more along the lines of "tech sold off on the Fed minutes; your portfolio moved with the sector, ending the day about $2,100 lower."

But it's written in editorial voice. Each day has a distinct character:

  • Mantra Monday: a thought to start the week
  • Term Tuesday: a financial concept in plain language
  • Wonder Wednesday: a question to sit with
  • Throwback Thursday: where you stood, then and now
  • Forecast Friday: what's coming next
  • Snapshot Saturday: the week's through-line
  • Sidebar Sunday: a longer-form read for the morning

Each brief has one editorial focus per day, not a list of items. Like a magazine column, not a status dashboard.

Who it's for:

Probably someone in their 30s with a real financial life ($50K–$500K net worth) who values thoughtful daily content, likely the kind of person who reads The Atlantic or pays for a Substack writer. Not someone looking for budgeting software or a Mint replacement.

Pricing:

$12.99/month, no free tier. Premium positioning, not mass market.

What I'd love feedback on:

  1. Does the daily editorial framing actually appeal to you, or does it sound like extra friction vs. just opening your bank app?
  2. Is $12.99/month reasonable for this, or off the mark?
  3. Have you seen anything similar? I think the space is uncrowded but I might be missing competitors.
  4. What would make you cancel after the first week?
