Disclaimer: The following is a completely shameless brag meant to compensate for the fact that nobody IRL seems to care that I am progressing really well in my virtual exercise game. With that out of the way, let me tell you all about my magnificent achievement.
In early July last year, I bought a Jetblack Victory and started riding on Zwift. In my very first session I could barely hold 200W for a minute and set my initial FTP to 185W.
Today, I just completed a 20-minute FTP test averaging 428W — giving an FTP of 407W. I weigh 82kg, so that's 4.96 W/kg (Damn it! So close…).
I have attached a very informative graph that shows my FTP progression.
What makes this extra sweet, at least to me, is that I didn't even train that hard. My Zwift history is below — averaged out over the ten months, it comes to roughly 1.5 hours per week. I don't ride outdoors at all beyond a short commute to work.
To be fair, I have done some road and MTB riding in the past, but at a pretty casual level, like 10–15 rides a year. About 10 years ago, I did take cycling somewhat seriously for a few seasons, where I believe I reached an FTP of 300 watts.
As for what's next: I have decided to celebrate my great achievement by investing in a Zwift Ride, pending approval from my wife, of course.
