Replace granite kitchen island countertop with butcher block
I have a kitchen island (no sink/plumbing) with a granite countertop.
I want to remove it and replace it with a butcher block as it will better fit the general aesthetic of my apartment. The dimensions are approximately 30x60" (including overhang).
I don't really care much if the stone breaks during the removal (although, it would be best if it didn't), but I want to make sure that the cabinets underneath remain solid.
This is a DIY project. And while I'm fairly handy, I've never done something like this before.
Is that doable? Any suggestions on how to best remove the stone without damaging the cabinets? And also, any suggestions on how to best attach the butcher's block to the existing cabinet?
